Instagram announces Edits as CapCut alternative
TikTok wasn’t the only high-profile app to be banned in the US recently, as ByteDance’s video editing app CapCut was also taken offline. Meta wasted no time taking advantage of the situation and announcing its own free video editor for Instagrammers called Edits.
The app is currently available for pre-order on the US App Store and is expected to go live next month. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri also confirmed that an Android version is “coming soon.”
Edits allows users to record and edit footage for vertical-style videos that can then be published on any platform. If you choose to post to Instagram, the app offers insights into live video performance, such as viewer engagement, thanks to integration with Instagram Reels.
Edits has its own Inspiration tab and all of CapCut’s standard tools, including green screen, video overlays, caption generation, and voiceovers. You can use the app’s built-in AI animation feature to bring images to life. Edits also pulls in camera settings for resolution, frame rate, dynamic range, flash, and zoom. The app also allows creators to collaborate and share video drafts.
