Spotify launches music videos for premium tier in 11 markets

Spotify has announced a new media format. The world’s most popular music streaming app is getting music videos in 11 markets. These include the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Kenya. The function is currently in beta and initially only offers a limited selection of videos. These include hits from international artists such as Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat and Ice Spice as well as local heroes such as Aluna and Asake.
To watch music videos, you must be in one of the 11 markets and be a Premium subscriber. The videos will be available on the Spotify apps for iOS and Android, as well as on the website and TV apps. If you want to switch from audio to video, simply click on the corresponding button as soon as a supported song is playing. The music video will then play from the beginning in the Now Playing view. You can switch back to pure audio playback at any time, and videos can also be played in landscape format.
Spotify promises that the music video feature will be “continuously developed and improved” based on feedback from users and artists. The catalog of music videos is gradually expanding, as is the geographical availability of the feature.
