Apple iPhone 18 Pro teardown reveals how Apple shrunk the Dynamic Island

The YouTube channel REWA Technology has released one of the first teardown videos of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro, offering a glimpse inside the new device. The disassembly begins with loosening the pentalobe screws on the bottom. The display is then removed using heat, a suction cup, and alcohol.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro infrared camera moved to the top left
The Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max feature a smaller Dynamic Island. Apple achieved this by placing the infrared camera for Face ID below the display in the upper left corner. The pixels above the infrared camera have a special pattern that allows infrared light to pass through. However, this area of the screen appears almost normal from typical viewing angles.

The disassembly reveals the repositioned infrared camera as well as other changes, such as the larger 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture. Whether the sensor itself has also grown or only the housing has been enlarged remains unclear – a larger housing was probably unavoidable due to the variable aperture alone.
The teardown also confirms that the iPhone 18 Pro, as expected, has a 4,056 mAh battery (it is a model with a physical SIM card slot).
We are still waiting for the teardown of the US version of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is expected to be equipped with a Qualcomm cellular modem, such as the Snapdragon X80 or the Snapdragon X85. The smaller iPhone 18 Pro uses Apple’s C2 modem worldwide, as does the iPhone 18 Pro Max in all other countries outside the US, according to Apple.
