Xiaomi 18 Pro: Geekbench test, AI apps for the rear display and launch date

The Xiaomi 18 Pro, equipped with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset and model number M154FF, has appeared in the Geekbench database. This is a completely new way for Xiaomi to assign model numbers, as the company has previously used a year-and-month system. We are not claiming the entry is fake, but simply pointing out the unusual model number.

As you can see, the Xiaomi 18 Pro prototype in question achieved a single-core score of 2,871 and a multi-core score of 8,836 in the Geekbench 7 test. As usual, you shouldn’t overinterpret these numbers, as prototypes may still contain unfinished software and hardware.
The listing shows that the chipset’s CPU will clock at up to 5.01 GHz. Rumors suggest these smartphones will be the first to use Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, which aligns well with the extremely high clock speeds. The prototype that performed the benchmark test also had 16 GB of RAM, but Xiaomi could, of course, offer other options.
Xiaomi 18 Pro: Developing rear display apps using AI
Xiaomi has also released further details and a short video about the “versatile rear display” of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series. The company offered a first look at the improved display. In a short teaser on Weibo, Xiaomi revealed that users will be able to create AI-powered apps for specific tasks, which will then be displayed on the rear screen.
The video showcases various examples, including apps for drink reminders, egg-cooking timers, recipe suggestions, and learning new English words. Previously, the rear display of the Xiaomi 17 Pro series could only show selected widgets and pre-installed app cards.

Xiaomi also announced that it has partnered with several brands in China to offer customized app maps for the rear display of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series.
Xiaomi HyperOS 4 Beta
In mid-August, Xiaomi announced HyperOS 4 with its new glass design and last week began searching for beta testers for its global devices. The search appears to have been successful, as the company announced today that the first beta version of HyperOS 4 is now being rolled out to participants in the beta program. This is timely, as the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is also expected to launch with the latest version of HyperOS.

Currently, only three devices are supported: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the Xiaomi 17, and the Leica Leitzphone by Xiaomi. If you own one of these devices and were able to participate in the beta program, go to Settings > About phone and tap the version number to manually check for the beta update if you haven’t yet received a notification.

Today, September 17th, the beta version will also be released for owners of the Xiaomi 17T, 17T Pro, 15, and 15 Ultra. Whether the beta will be extended to other devices afterward is still unclear. Xiaomi has also not yet announced a timeline for the release of the stable version of HyperOS 4, so it could still be some time before it’s available.
Start date
Following the unveiling of the Xiaomi 18 Fold, the next market launch is already on the horizon. Although Xiaomi hasn’t yet announced a release date, the company is officially teasing its upcoming flagship series. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series will be launched in China this month, the company confirmed in another Weibo teaser.

The teaser offers another look at the back of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series, including the rear display, which resembles that of the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The smartphone’s triple-camera setup is also visible. Two sensors are housed in a large, rectangular camera module, while the third – similar to the Xiaomi 17 Pro series – sits outside of it.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are expected to launch in China this month and have already been certified in China for 100W wired charging.
