Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra teardown reveals new 5x telephoto camera
At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra might appear to be a revised update of its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, Samsung has integrated a completely new periscope telephoto camera design that is worth a closer look.
Fortunately, Zack Nelson, also known as JerryRigEverything, has already taken apart the innovative ALoP 5x periscope of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in his latest teardown video.
The All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) design was already introduced in 2024 by Samsung’s imaging division and essentially enables more compact periscope sensors. As the name suggests, the lens array is located directly on the prism and not, as with conventional periscope modules, between the image sensor and the prism.

The assembly can be seen in the video from minute 8:00 onwards and is quite impressive. Samsung’s ALoP design is 22% shorter than conventional periscopes and offers a larger aperture of f/2.9, allowing 37% more light in compared to the f/3.4 aperture of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
The new Ultra had received some criticism both before and after the unpacked event. The new Galaxy S26 series would offer too little innovation; only the chipset and the new privacy display could be considered genuine upgrades. In our opinion, the same cannot be said for the new ALoP lens.
