Product overview Apple Watch SE 3
The Apple Watch SE 3 is the latest version of Cupertino’s most affordable smartwatch, introduced in September 2025. It brings an always-on display to the SE series for the first time, the new S10 chip, health features such as sleep score, temperature sensor, sleep apnea notifications, as well as faster charging and more efficient cellular performance on cellular models.
Design
The SE 3 features a recycled aluminum case and is available in two colors: Midnight and Starlight. It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with the smaller model appearing slightly lighter and slimmer on the wrist. The overall design remains simple and functional, similar to previous SE models.
Build quality
The Apple Watch SE 3 is robustly built; its display glass (Ion-X glass) is four times more resistant to cracking than the previous model. The buttons (Digital Crown, side button) are precisely crafted, and all components fit snugly and cleanly into the casing. It remains water-resistant to 50 meters, making it suitable for swimming.
Display
The always-on Retina display is a significant upgrade for the SE line: users no longer need to raise their wrist to see the time or notifications. Maximum brightness is around 1,000 nits, ensuring good readability even outdoors in bright light. Resolutions of 324 × 394 pixels (40 mm) and 368 × 448 pixels (44 mm) are sufficiently sharp for typical use cases.
Performance
Inside the Apple Watch SE 3 is the S10 SiP, the same chip used in higher-end models. It ensures smooth operation, fast response times, and supports new gestures like double tap and wrist flick. Cellular models get a more efficient 5G modem, which promises lower battery consumption during active use than older LTE versions.
Battery
Apple states a battery life of approximately 18 hours for the SE 3 with typical use. New is the faster charging: a 15-minute charge provides enough power for around 8 hours of use, and about 45 minutes reaches approximately 80% charge. This makes it more practical to use the watch for sleep tracking.
Camera functions
The Apple Watch SE 3 doesn’t have its own camera, but uses camera controls via the paired iPhone (shutter release, preview, etc.). However, it does offer advanced health sensors: a heart rate sensor, a wrist-based temperature sensor, sleep analysis and score, as well as indications of potential sleep apnea. These features provide more insight into vital data than before.
Conclusion
The Apple Watch SE 3 is a compelling update to the SE series. It brings many features previously reserved for the more expensive Series models – an always-on display, new health features, and faster charging. For those who don’t need ECG and blood oxygen sensors and are looking for a good overall package at a comparatively lower price, this watch offers excellent value. However, for users who prioritize maximum sensor range and the latest Pro features, the more expensive models remain the better choice – currently, the also newly released models.
