YouTube Music now officially on Apple HomePod

The YouTube Music product team has announced deeper integration with the HomePod and in particular its voice commands.
Apple HomePod 2

Before you inform us in the comments section that playing music from YouTube Music on the Apple HomePod has been possible for some time – we feel the same way. In principle, this has already been possible since you can transfer audio from the app to a HomePod.

The YouTube Music product team has now announced deeper integration with the HomePod and in particular its voice commands. From now on you can easily integrate YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium as a playback service into the HomePod. The appropriate new voice command is “Hey Siri, play music on YouTube Music.” Basically, you don’t even need a smartphone for the whole process.

As already mentioned, for the integration to work, you must be a YouTube Premium or Music Premium subscriber. Then just download the latest YouTube Music app and go to Settings > Connected Apps > Connect to HomePod. If YouTube Music is your preferred streaming service, you can also set it as the default on your HomePod. You do this via the Home app on an iPhone or iPad in the Settings. Then you can just use the normal commands like “Hey Siri, play music” without the addition “on YouTube Music”.
