Xiaomi unveils Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition

The Redmi Note 12 series presented in October consisted of the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and the Redmi Note 12 Discovery aka Explorer. Today a fifth model has been added – the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition. Now you might think that speed means either more processing power or faster charging. One of them is also the case.

But it’s not the charging – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition charges with 67 watts just like the normal Pro. The battery is also identical with a capacity of 5,000 mAh and supports the charging protocols QC 3+, PD 2.0 and PD 3.0. The Speed Edition is also visually similar to the Note 12 Pro. Redmi just adjusted the design of the camera island a bit and moved the Redmi branding from bottom to top. It actually looks like a Poco smartphone. And since Xiaomi likes to rename its models back and forth between Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco, it could actually become one.

It’s also worth noting that while the Note 12 Pro Speed Edition shares dimensions and battery size with the regular Pro, it’s six grams lighter at 181g. However, the main differences are in the chipset and camera areas. The Redmi Note 12 Pro is powered by a Dimensity 1080 chipset and has a 50 megapixel main camera. The Speed Edition, on the other hand, is powered by the faster Snapdragon 778G processor. The main camera has a resolution of 108 megapixels on a Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor, but without optical image stabilization (OIS). There is also an 8 megapixel ultra wide camera and a 2 megapixel macro lens.

Other highlights of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition include a 6.67-inch 10-bit OLED display with FullHD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. There’s a 16-megapixel selfie camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 5G connectivity, and an integrated NFC chip. USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for Hi-Res Audio (wired/wireless) and Dolby Vision are also on board. In addition, the Speed Edition features stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor and IP53 protection against water and dust.

Unlike the Redmi Note 12 Pro which runs Android 12 and MIUI 13, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition already boots Android 13 with MIUI 14. It comes in black, blue and green colors and has three storage options – 6 /128GB, 8/256GB and 12/256GB. The 6GB variant costs CNY 1,699 ($245) and the 8GB model costs CNY 1,799 ($260). The top version with 12 GB version is 1,999 CNY ($285). There is no information on international availability yet.
