Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G with 6.8″ and Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 unveiled

After last month’s Redmi 12, the Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G was launched today in India. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset is on board for 5G connections, the rest of the technical data is largely identical to the 4G model. Except for the selfie camera, there are no differences to the Redmi Note 12R either, which is only available in China.

The Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G is based on a 6.79 inch LCD display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a Full HD+ resolution. The 5,000 mAh battery charges with a manageable 18 watts and is also installed in the Redmi 12. However, the camera setup is different. The two Xiaomi smartphones share the 50 megapixel f/1.8 main camera. In addition, the 5G has a 2-megapixel f/2.4 macro camera instead of the 8-megapixel ultrawide camera of the 4G. On the front, the Redmi 12 5G has an 8-megapixel f/2.0 camera with 1.12 µm pixels.

The Redmi 12 5G runs the current MIUI 14 based on Android 13. The design is inspired by crystals and precious stones and includes a glass back. This is available for the first time in the Redmi number series and brings the thickness to just under 8.2 mm. There is also a basic IP53 protection against dust and splash water.

The Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G comes in three colors: Jade Black, Pastel Blue and Moonstone Silver. The 4/128GB version costs INR 10,999 ($133/€120) including the Early Bird discounts. The 6/128 GB variant costs INR 12,499 ($150/€140) and the 8/256 GB variant costs INR 14,499 ($175/€160). The sale begins this Friday, August 4th at 12pm in India. Xiaomi sells the Redmi 12 5G in the Xiaomi online shop, via Amazon and through local offline partners.
