We’ve known for a while that the Xiaomi Poco F6 is likely to get the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. But now we get the first solid evidence directly from the HyperOS source code. The Poco F6 appears there with the code name “Peridot” and the model code N16T to follow in the footsteps of the new Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro. The Civi is the first smartphone with the 8s Gen 3. However, the Poco could be based on another Xiaomi phone, the Redmi Note 13 Turbo, which is also yet to premiere.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is an interesting mix of the 8 Gen 2 and the 8 Gen 3. However, the chip is inferior in some areas and does not offer 8K video recording, for example. Here’s a comparison of the three 8-series chipsets:

However, this chip was built precisely for smartphones like the Xiaomi Poco F6 – flagship performance at a significantly cheaper price. The Poco F5 also offered a lot of performance for its price thanks to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. The processor is even more powerful than its direct successor, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

In addition, the leak also contains details about the cameras. The main camera features a 50 megapixel Sony IMX882 sensor. The 1/2 inch sensor also powers the Realme 12 Pro and the OnePlus Ace 3V. There is also an 8 megapixel ultrawide camera with an older IMX355 chip and an OmniVision OV20B selfie camera.

The displays are sourced from two suppliers: TCL and Tianma. Unfortunately, there is no information about the display specifications yet. The Xiaomi Poco F6 is expected to be announced in April or more likely May. The Redmi Note 13 Turbo may be launched in China before then. There is also said to be a Poco F6 Pro model – rumor has it it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, versus a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on the Poco F5 Pro.
