Xiaomi Poco F5 and Poco F5 Pro officially unveiled

The Poco F5 series from Xiaomi actually only celebrates its global debut tomorrow. The company’s subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates apparently didn’t want to wait that long and released both phones today on the Poco UAE website. The specs and designs of the Poco F5 and F5 Pro are thus fully revealed. What’s missing are the prices for the different markets, which will come to light tomorrow.

Xiaomi Poco F5 Pro

The Xiaomi Poco F5 Pro launches with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and three storage options. It’s essentially the China-only Redmi K60, but with Google apps and a slightly smaller battery. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display resolves WQHD+ (3200 x 1440 pixels) at 526 ppi, which is the highest pixel density ever on a Poco smartphone. The panel supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 480 Hz. It also houses the fingerprint sensor, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

On the back is a 64-megapixel main camera with an Omnivision OV64B sensor, an f/1.8 aperture and a 6P optically stabilized lens. Xiaomi also installs an 8-megapixel ultra-wide cam with a 120-degree field of view and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The selfie shooter is based on a 16-megapixel sensor but is limited to 1080p videos.

Traditionally, Xiaomi also wants to cover gaming with the Poco F series. That’s why the F5 Pro has a 5,000mm² LiquidCool solution on board, a mixture of vapor chamber and layers of stainless steel and graphite. Compared to the Poco F4 GT, the thermal conductivity should work up to 15% better. The battery has a capacity of 5,160 mAh compared to 5,500 mAh in the Redmi K60. The charging speeds, on the other hand, remain the same at 67 watts by cable and 30 watts wirelessly. Android 13 with Xiaomi’s MIUI 14 interface is used as the operating system.

The Xiaomi Poco F5 Pro is offered in the United Arab Emirates in white or black with a carbon-like finish. Storage and RAM options are 8/256GB, 12/256GB and 12/512GB. There may be more variants and color options for other markets tomorrow.

Xiaomi Poco F5

The regular Xiaomi Poco F5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset under the hood. Although the F5 is more in the middle class, the 7+ Gen 2 with a 2.9 GHz prime core is one of the currently fastest processors there. The storage is 256 GB, plus 8 or 12 GB of RAM. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz is largely identical to the Pro, but only has a resolution of 1080p.

The camera setup is spearheaded by an unknown 64-megapixel main sensor with OIS. There is also an 8 megapixel ultrawide and a 2 megapixel macro camera. The selfie camera has 16 megapixels with an f/2.45 aperture. The Poco F5 weighs 181 grams and is 7.9 mm thin. The Poco smartphone’s battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and also charges with a fast 67 watts. Other features include Android 13 with MIUI 14, NFC, an IR transmitter and Bluetooth 5.3.

The F5 shares its hardware with another China-only phone – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Turbo. So far, black, blue and white color options have appeared with a “dual-color gradient offset printing”.
