The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is the newest foldable on the smartphone market and just launched in China. A new teardown video from WekiHome now shows how much work has gone into the clamshell’s internal components such as the hinge. The teardown begins, as usual, with removing the SIM slot and prying off the backplate, revealing half of the device.
The cover film of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is also carefully removed so that both sides of the back are exposed. Removing a few covers, screws and flex cables reveals the vertical stack motherboard and the Leica quad-lens camera system. The motherboard is a completely new development from Xiaomi with its stacked design.

The two battery cells of the Xiaomi cell phone with capacities of 2,580 mAh and 2,200 mAh are exposed next. They’re impressively thin at just 2.39mm and 2.88mm thick, respectively, which helps maintain the device’s slim profile.
Then it’s time for the star of the show – the brand new, proprietary hinge mechanism of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. The hinge consists of no less than 198 parts, thereby taking up 17% less interior space and featuring several colour-coded water seals. The seals help keep liquids out. However, there is no official protection class in terms of water resistance. The new hinge is thinner than its predecessor but weighs slightly more at 23.4 grams.
