Xiaomi MIUI 14 unveiled with new design

Xiaomi’s first MIUI interface was launched back in 2010. Over 12 years later, MIUI boasts a global user base of over 564 million monthly active users. Shortly after the official launch of the Xiaomi 13 series, the latest version MIUI 14 was announced.

According to Xiaomi, MIUI 14 is the company’s most optimized Android interface to date. The team behind MIUI 14 updated the system architecture at the Android kernel level. Optimizations include CPU, GPU, and memory resource scheduling, reduced system firmware size, and decreased memory usage. According to Xiaomi, MIUI 14 runs 60% smoother on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra compared to its predecessor.

Other nice tweaks include automatic compression for apps that aren’t actively used and a toggle to disable persistent notifications. Only eight system apps cannot be uninstalled, which is a big leap from previous MIUI versions. MIUI 14 theme offers customizable folders with regular and large icons and new widget options with different shapes and sizes. One of the more unexpected additions to MUI 14 are the flower and pet widgets. These are animated Tamagotchi-like characters that live on the home screen.

MIUI 14 also brings duplicate file merging and improved text detection and extraction from images in the gallery. Data protection is also improved through end-to-end encryption and the local processing of user data on the device. MIUI 14 also has a new toggle in the control center that allows to drag and drop Xiaomi accessories like wireless earbuds between Xiaomi devices. This function handles the pairing.

With the new family account function, you can share photos and cloud services with up to nine people. Users can also share health tracking data from the smartwatch with family members. Xiaomi tablets also get easy keyboard and mouse switching with notebooks, as well as screen mirroring and advanced display capabilities.
