Xiaomi 15 series: 1-inch Leica main camera, HyperOS 2.0 and ultrasonic sensor

The Xiaomi 15 series is said to have a 1" Leica main camera, a periscope telephoto lens, HyperOS 2.0 and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
Xiaomi 15 Ultra

The Xiaomi 14 Pro was launched in China in October 2023, but unfortunately remained exclusive to the Chinese home market. The regular Xiaomi 14 and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, on the other hand, launched worldwide. It is still unclear whether the successor will also be sold internationally. However, it is said to have a better camera system. According to a Weibo tipster, the Xiaomi 15 Pro will still have 50 megapixel sensors, but there will be different sensors for the main and telephoto lenses.

The 50 megapixel main camera of the Xiaomi 15 Pro will switch to a 1-inch OmniVision OV50K chip. This would be a significant upgrade over the OVX9000 sensor in the Xiaomi 14 Pro. The OV50K variant has not yet been officially launched by the US-Taiwanese optics company. But we should see it as the successor to the already impressive OV50H. The chip has already proven itself in the Honor Magic6 Pro, the vivo iQOO 12 series and the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra.

Periscope telephoto, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and HyperOS 2.0

The Xiaomi 15 Pro’s telephoto lens uses a Sony sensor, which is also an improvement over the outdated Samsung ISOCELL JN1. The 1/2-inch image sensor is considerably larger than the 1/2.76-inch Samsung chip. In addition, according to a second tip, Xiaomi combines it with a significantly larger aperture.

In addition, the Xiaomi 15 base model is also said to have an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Ultrasonic sensors work faster and more accurately than optical sensors, but they also cost a bit more. Especially when they are combined with significantly larger scanning areas, as in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or the Vivo X100 series.

Finally, the same tipster also commented on the software of the Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra. According to him, HyperOS 2.0, the next iteration of Xiaomi’s Android interface, is supposed to be significantly more efficient. This primarily includes battery life. Xiaomi is aware that there is still a lot of potential in terms of battery optimization and is currently working on it.

These upgrades should lead to a really powerful series with a strong camera setup, at least with the Xiaomi 15 Pro. One can only hope that the upcoming Xiaomi smartphones will also be available internationally.
