When the Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro were introduced, the presentation of the cameras developed in collaboration with Leica was one of the highlights. And for good reason – the image quality of the two Xiaomi smartphones is excellent. However, buyers in certain markets will apparently have to forego the Leica branding and customized camera modes. So far these include Chile and Nigeria, although the models are not yet available in certain regions, so the list may get longer.

The Leica extras on the Xiaomi 13T series aren’t just limited to lenses, there are also a handful of software features. For example, the default camera app offers two main shooting styles – Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. The same applies to the high-end models Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro and 13 Ultra. There are also some optimizations related to portrait mode.

One would assume that this would bring down the price of both phones in the countries mentioned, but that is not the case. Both devices are at about the same level as their Leica counterparts in Europe. The Xiaomi 13T costs the equivalent of just over 600 euros. The 13T Pro costs the equivalent of around 800 euros in both Chile and Nigeria.

The reason for this decision is unknown. It could be due to some market restrictions or a clause in the Xiaomi-Leica agreement that prohibits the smartphone maker from selling Leica products in some markets. We hope that Xiaomi will officially comment on the matter.
