vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro with SD 8 Gen 3 and 5,700 mAh battery are here

The vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro are lighter, thinner and more powerful than any other current foldable on the market.
vivo X Fold 3 Pro

Better, faster, stronger, thinner and lighter – the new vivo X Fold 3 series with a significantly slimmer design is here. At the same time, vivo has upgraded the cameras and batteries. At 219 g, the entry-level model is even lighter than the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max (221 g), the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (232 g) and foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold5 (253 g). The predecessor, the X Fold 2, weighed 279 g and measured 12.9 mm when folded. With the X Fold 3, this value drops to 10.2 mm.

Both vivo X Fold 3 have the same displays. The internal display has a diagonal of 8.03 inches, a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The Samsung E7 panel also achieves a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The cover display is 6.53 inches in size, delivers a resolution of 1,172 x 2,748 pixels and also refreshes at 120 Hz. This display uses Q9 Plus material and also shines at up to 4,500 nits. That’s more than double the X Fold 2 displays, which maxed out at 1,800 and 1,600 nits.

vivo X Fold 3 Pro

The vivo X Fold 3 Pro is powered by the currently fastest Android chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from Qualcomm – together with vivo’s V3 image processor. The V3 processes data from the 50-megapixel ultra-sensing main camera with a 1/1.3-inch OmniVision OV50H sensor and an f/1.68 lens with OIS. There is also a 64 megapixel telephoto camera with an OV64B sensor (1/2 inch) and an f/2.57 lens as well as a 50 megapixel ultra wide cam with 119 degree FoV and a Samsung JN1 chip (1/2.76 inch , f/1.85). The two selfie cameras each have a resolution of 32 megapixels on 1/3.6 inch sensors.

vivo X Fold 3

The regular vivo X Fold 3 uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, just like the X Fold 2. There are versions from 12/256 GB to 16 GB/1 TB (LPDDR5X, UFS 4.0), but the V3 imaging chip is missing. The Pro only starts at 16/512 GB, but the hardware is the same. The 50 megapixel main camera is based on a 1/1.49 inch Sony IMX920 sensor and an f/1.75 lens with OIS. There’s also a 50-megapixel, 50mm, 1/2.93-inch IMX816 portrait camera with an f/1.85 aperture. The 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera is identical, as are the selfie cameras.

Both vivo X Fold 3 models feature a lightweight carbon fiber hinge that weighs just 14.98g. TÜV Rheinland has certified that it has a durability of 500,000 folds. In addition, the front is 11 times more durable and the back is 15 times more durable compared to the X Fold 2. The foldable display also features a shockproof film in addition to the UTG. The Pro model is even waterproof to IPX8, while the basic model only achieves IPX4. The Pro model also features a huge battery. 5,700 mAh are available, 900 mAh more than its predecessor. The base model has a slightly smaller 5,500 mAh battery.

Both vivo phones offer dual-SIM 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, an IR transmitter, stereo speakers and wireless, lossless Hi-Fi audio. The Pro also supports the USB 3.2 Gen2 standard and has two 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, while the non-Pro has side unlocking. Both models also have physical mute switches.

The touch controllers for the display and the audio amplifiers come from Goodix. The controllers can even detect wet fingers, which is handy given the new water resistance. The SpeakerBoost 5.0 amplifiers are optimized for low voltage sound performance and therefore use less power. The Pro battery charges via cable with 100 watts and wirelessly with 50 watts, while the base model only supports wired charging with 80 watts.

vivo has not yet commented on the launch dates, availability and prices.
