vivo X Fold 2 unboxing: new design and better UI

The upcoming vivo X Fold 2 is currently continuing its promotion rounds at the Boao Forum 2023 in China. A local blogger now got his hands on the vivo smartphone for an unboxing, which vivo later re-released on its own Weibo channel. Accordingly, the new foldable will have a leather back. As usual, the camera module is located in the upper quarter in a glossy panel, as with the vivo X80 Pro.

The images show some new features of the vivo X Fold 2. These include new UI features on OriginOS Ocean, including a taskbar for smoother working with multiple apps, multi-window modes, and simple gestures. All of these features were not present in previous X Fold models, but could also reach older devices via software updates.

The X Fold 2 also appears to have two UD fingerprint sensors – one under each display. The scanner sits under the foldable main display in the lower right corner. This is a first for a foldable smartphone, as manufacturers have so far relied on fingerprint sensors on the side of the frame.

According to the blogger, the hinge on the vivo X Fold 2 has also been redesigned. It now holds the foldable in all positions and angles, making it useful as a tripod for watching video content or taking photos and videos. In addition, the device has become around 10% lighter, which is a huge improvement over its predecessors, which weigh more than 310 g.

The official launch of the vivo X Fold 2 is scheduled to take place sometime in April. The event will also be the setting for a new tablet, the vivo Pad 2, which was also on display at the vivo booth at the Boao Forum.
