vivo X Fold 2 is officially coming in April

The vivo X Fold 2 has been buzzing the rumor mill for over a month. Today the company finally announced a launch date. vivo Vice President Huang Tao announced that the new foldable will become the official smartphone of Boao Forum 2023. The event similar to the World Economic Forum in Davos brings together political leaders, business leaders and academics from Asia. It runs until March 31.

The official presentation of the vivo X Fold 2 should therefore take place shortly afterwards, i.e. in April. A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is likely to run the show, which underlines the claim as a premium cell phone. Power is supplied by a 4,800 mAh battery that charges with a fast 120 watts. According to a since-deleted Digital Chat Station post on Weibo, the X Fold 2 should also bring a main camera with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 chip, OIS, and vivo’s V2 image sensor. That would match the powerful main cameras on the vivo X90 and iQOO 11 Pro.

As usual with vivo flagships, there are also ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, in this case two, one for each display. That would be a first in the world of foldable smartphones. So far, the manufacturers have instead stuck to a sensor that is integrated into the power button.

In addition to the vivo X Fold 2, the vivo X Flip is also close to launch and could start at the same event. A new tablet called vivo Pad 2 is also planned.
