Tecno will unveil its second foldable smartphone on Friday. The first was the horizontally foldable model called the Phantom V Fold. The new model will be a flip phone with the apt name Tecno Phantom V Flip. The official presentation will take place in Singapore, but the phone should also start in India and Nigeria, among others. In fact, the Nigerian airline MTN is already accepting pre-orders and registrations. The offer is valid until September 27th, when open sales should start, at least in Nigeria.
The deal is that you pay a deposit of NGN 100,000 (€122/$130) and in return you get two designer perfumes and 70GB of data for free. This bonus is worth 100,000 NGN. The images provide an insight into the design. Apart from that, pictures of a protective cover manufacturer already appeared.
A short video of the Tecno Phantom V Flip has also appeared on the Internet. The most interesting aspect is certainly the small, round external display, which sits in the middle of the camera module. Other flip phone manufacturers have recently been fighting for the largest external display, with the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 currently leading the way.
In the video you can see the always-on display (clock), an animated wallpaper and some shortcuts. However, it seems unlikely that you can run full-fledged Android apps on the small panel like the competitors mentioned above. Instead, the display and the AOD work with widgets, as you can see in the last slide called “Add Widget”.
The video also shows something we haven’t seen before – the opened main display. According to reports, it will be 6.9 inches in size and offer an FHD+ resolution, while the outer display is more in the realm of a smartwatch at 1.39 inches. According to the Google Play Console, it will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The two cameras around the cover display have 64 and 13 megapixel sensors and the selfie camera is located inside.
