Spotify releases Miniplayer for Mac and Windows

The new Spotify Miniplayer is intended to offer full control over music and podcast playback in the smallest of spaces.
Spotify Miniplayer

Spotify has announced a new feature for both macOS and Windows. We’re talking about the new Miniplayer, which is now available for Spotify Premium subscribers. The Miniplayer, as the name suggests, is designed to give you maximum control over your music and podcasts while taking up minimal space. You can quickly skip tracks, adjust volume, or change repeat mode without having to go to Spotify’s main window.

The Spotify Miniplayer can be displayed as a square, rectangle or slim bar, as you can see in the image above on the left. It supports both music and podcasts and “delivers a balanced experience, catering equally to both video and music content”. It displays video podcasts in picture-in-picture mode with controls, and you can also change the size of the video player .

Clicking on the artist name, song name, or album art opens the main Spotify app. The Miniplayer can be found in the bottom right corner of the Spotify desktop app, between the volume and full screen buttons.

The Miniplayer floats on top of other applications, so it doesn’t particularly impact workflow. You can also open or close it without interrupting playback, as it does not replace the main Spotify window.
