Sony is preparing to launch at least one new Xperia smartphone on May 11th. The company released a teaser video for the launch event, which is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Japan time (4:00 a.m. UTC) on the second Thursday in May. The event will be streamed live on YouTube and will most likely frame the launch of the new flagship Sony Xperia 1 V.
This is supported by the appropriate video teaser for the event entitled “The next ONE is coming…”. The Sony Xperia 1 V has been seen in a few leaks over the past few months. Accordingly, little will change in the design compared to the predecessor Sony Xperia 1 IV.

Rumor has it that the Sony Xperia 1 V will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. In addition, the upcoming Sony smartphone could be the thinnest phone with this processor so far. There’s rumored to be a triple camera setup on the back, with a 12-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide, and another 12-megapixel periscope camera.
Sony Xperia 5 V should charge with 33 watts
The Sony Xperia 5 V has also emerged from cover, a full quarter earlier than its predecessor, the Xperia 5 IV. The Xperia 5 V was spotted in a 3C certification with the model number XQ-DQ72. The charging speed was 33 watts. The same model number was spotted on Geekbench back in February. The tested device also had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under the hood in combination with 16 GB of RAM.
Sony typically releases the Xperia 1 between May and August, while the Xperia 5 follows between September and October. We couldn’t fault an earlier start.
