Sony WF-1000XM5: New earphones are coming next week

Sony will unveil the next generation of its flagship TWS headphones next week – the WF-1000XM5 are coming on July 24th (Monday). The Japanese have not yet revealed much about the new models. The slogan for the Sony headphones is “For the silence. For the sound.” So it’s obvious that the focus will be on improving active noise cancellation.

There have already been several leaks about the Sony WF-1000XM5. The new buds will be smaller, weighing just 5.9g instead of 7.3g. In combination with the case, they also offer a longer battery life of up to 24 hours.

The individual buds themselves are said to have Dynamic Driver X technology with 8.4 mm speakers. As usual, Sony develops the audio chips themselfes. In combination with three microphones, these processors take over the active noise cancellation. During calls, bone conduction sensors and Precise Voice Pickup ensure that your own voice is transmitted with as little interference as possible. This should also work if you are in a noisy environment.

However, there is some bad news as well. The Sony WF-1000XM5 should cost 320 euros in Europe. For comparison, the Sony WF-1000XM4 came onto the market for 280 euros. Starting at $280 in the US, it’s safe to assume the XM5 will cost $320.
