Sony PS5 Pro comes in April with water cooling

While the PlayStation 5 has only been available for a little over two years, Sony is currently preparing to introduce an all-new console. The PS5 Pro should get a new design and is about to launch. It should be ready in the next few weeks. The information comes from Abhishek Yadav from the French website Phonandroid. Accordingly, Sony will launch a completely new PS5 model as early as April 2023, or around 2.5 years after the presentation of the current model.

Yadav explicitly said that it will be a Pro model and not the Slim version, which has been circulating in the rumor mill for some time. Accordingly, we can probably expect more performance and thus a new chipset from AMD. But more computing power also means more heat. Therefore, the main innovation of the Pro version, apart from the improved performance, is said to be in the cooling system. The current PS5 in the normal and in the digital edition uses a metal heat sink and a classic fan.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro renderings

A solution with liquid cooling, also called water cooling and known from gaming PCs for many years, is under discussion. In favor of a PS5 Pro, Sony recently declared the shortage of chipsets to be over. The worldwide chip crisis had severely restricted the availability of the PlayStation 5 practically from the start. However, there is no guarantee that the new Sony console will be available in sufficient quantities to cover all demand.

As usual with early rumors like this, you should take this with a pinch of salt. So far there is not even a confirmation of the existence of the PS5 Pro. In addition, Sony could change its plans at the last minute. Both in terms of the project name and a possible start date. In addition, the information comes from a source that does not wish to reveal its identity. However, the tipster had contacted the aforementioned website several times in the past and proved to be reliable.

In addition to the Pro version, Sony is already working hard on the successor. The PlayStation 6 is rumored to launch in 2024.
