Qualcomm has announced its latest chipset, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The platform is an evolution of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and shares the Cortex-X4 main core with the 8-series flagship as well as AI features processed directly on the chip. Qualcomm promises 15% more CPU performance and a 45% faster Adreno GPU compared to its predecessor. At the same time, power consumption fell by 5%.

This makes the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 the first 7-series chip with on-device generative AI capabilities. It supports a wide range of LLMs (Large Language Model) and LVMs (Large Vision Model) such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano and Zhipu ChatGLM. The AI capabilities are also expected to create better virtual assistants and create unprecedented content with incredible efficiency.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is based on 4nm process technology, and the CPU’s Cortex-X4 main core is clocked at 2.8GHz. There are also four Cortex-A720 performance cores at 2.6 GHz and three Cortex-A520 efficiency cores at 1.9 GHz. The Snapdragon X63 5G modem features the FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System and 3GPP Release 17 5G. The downlink over NR is up to 4.2 Gbit/s. In addition, smartphones with this chip can connect to all older mobile communications standards.

4K displays with 60 Hz and QHD+ displays with 120 Hz are supported, as are variable refresh rates from 240 Hz to 1 Hz. Up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage are supported. The first companies to use the 7+ Gen 3 are OnePlus, Realme and Sharp. We expect the OnePlus Ace 3V to become the first model with the new chip today.
