Samsung One UI 5: These are the most important functions

Samsung officially unveiled its own Android 13 interface, One UI 5, at its annual Samsung Developer Conference. Various new functions are coming to Samsung cell phones in the coming weeks. The stable firmware update will initially reach the Galaxy flagships such as the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4.

It starts with the redesigned lock screen where you can now customize your wallpaper, clock and colors. Another nice addition is the video background option, which allows you to place a short video on your lock screen.

Samsung also brings new smart suggestions for widgets and apps based on personal preferences. One UI 5’s routines offer new detection options to help launch automations. Modi is a new feature that allows you to set custom settings and app functions for different times of the day.

Bixby Text Call is Samsung’s answer to Google Screen Calling. This allows you to take calls via text message when you don’t feel like talking. The person on the other end of the line is notified and you type in the text you want Bixby to say. At the same time, what the other person says is transcribed in real time. Bixby Text Call is already available for users in South Korea, while the English version is planned for early 2023. You can now extract text from photos in Samsung Gallery.

There’s also a new connected devices menu and a privacy hub with security and privacy dashboards. Samsung also added a new notification in the sharing area. This warns if you try to share photos with confidential information such as pictures of passports or bank cards.
