Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6: Familiar design, different size

New images of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 show the well-known design. But apparently there are some improvements under the hood.

A few days ago, the first speculative renderings of the Galaxy Z Fold6 appeared on the Internet. Now it’s time to reveal the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. And if you thought the Fold looked too similar to its predecessor, you should first take a look at the upcoming Flip. Last year brought big changes to Samsung’s foldable with a significantly larger cover display and a heavily redesigned hinge. It seems that the next model will bring minor rather than major design changes.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 reportedly measures 165.0 x 71.7 x 7.4mm when unfolded. For comparison: The Galaxy Z Flip5 measures 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm. Since Samsung had already achieved a tight-fitting design, we can only hope that the extra thickness is due to a larger battery. Some reports put it at 4,000 mAh (+300 mAh compared to last year’s model).

The extra thickness could also help reduce the crease as it leaves more room for the flex hinge. This would also reduce the strain on the display when folded. Apparently the appropriate marketing name “Ironflex” has already been found. The inner display remains at a diagonal of 6.7 inches,. And according to today’s leak, the cover display also remains at 3.4 inches. However, in the new model it encloses the dual camera setup, which suggests that it covers the entire (half) front. According to other rumors, the diagonal increases to 3.9 inches, but this doesn’t quite match the design and dimensions of today’s leak.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6’s main camera is expected to feature a 50-megapixel sensor. That would be a long-overdue upgrade over the 12-megapixel chip found in previous Flips. There is no information yet about changes to the ultra-wide-angle camera, while a telephoto lens is apparently still being sought in vain. At least the main camera now has some in-sensor zoom.

As far as colors go, Galaxy Z Flip6 models so far appeared in lavender and mint. Both are similar, but not quite identical, to the corresponding shades of the Z Flip5. The market launch should be in August as usual, but there could be two models of both Samsung foldables for the first time – in addition to a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip6 FE also a high-end Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra.
