Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: new display and 50 MP telephoto cam

Last week, usually well-informed tipster Ice Universe said next year’s Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a new 50-megapixel telephoto camera. The lens offers 3x optical zoom, 0.7μm pixels and sits over a 1/2.52-inch sensor.

However, Samsung should also be able to achieve good 5x zoom image quality with this sensor. They could just digitally enlarge a section of the 3x image. Because of this, there have been rumors that the 3x telephoto of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be replaced with a 5x telephoto camera in the S24 Ultra.

While Samsung is upgrading the previous 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, the S23 Ultra’s 10-megapixel 10x periscope camera will remain on board, according to Ice Universe. The same applies to the 200 megapixel main camera and the 12 megapixel selfie camera. It is still unclear whether Samsung will swap the 12 megapixel ultra wide in the S24 Ultra, too.

However, Ice Universe not only revealed new details about the 50 megapixel telephoto camera of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The tipster also assumes that the S24 Ultra will come with a revised display. Unfortunately, he didn’t go into details. According to the rumors so far, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ will switch to LTPO panels. The next leak on the subject should not be long in coming.
