Xiaomi announced a new 300 watt fast charging technology for its Redmi subsidiary at the Mobile World Congress. The announcement comes just four months after Redmi became the first brand to break the 200-watt mark. The Xiaomi brand showed a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery, which can be charged from 0 to 100% battery in less than five minutes. Xiaomi also provided the corresponding video.

Xiaomi used a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery with a 4,100 mAh battery for the test (the original version has a dual 4,300 mAh cell) in a controlled environment. The previous record used a Redmi Note 12 Explorer with a 210 watt charger. It took 2 minutes and 11 seconds for the device to reach 50% battery. After just under five minutes of charging, the battery was at 100%.
However, the 300 watts are not quite right, even if the video comes directly from Redmi’s Weibo account. The Redmi Note 12 Discovery reaches 290 watts for about three seconds before charging rates drop a bit. 300 watts is the theoretical maximum that the charger and battery can reach, but the device is limited for safety reasons.
The charger itself is based on Xiaomi’s Double GaN technology and has “more than 50 safety protections”. Nevertheless, according to Redmi, the size of the adapter is quite compact. However, the Chinese did not reveal when we could see a Redmi Note 12 Discovery with a 300-watt charger on the open market.
