Realme GT 5 Pro gets periscope zoom camera

Rumor has it that Realme will launch the upcoming GT Neo6 on the international stage as the Realme GT5 in the coming weeks. The Neo6 series with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset would remain exclusive in China, at least in name. Then, towards the end of the year, the Realme GT5 Pro would hit international markets with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

Some more technical data on the Realme GT5 Pro now leaked in China. The tip comes from what is usually a very reliable source – leaker Digital Chat Station’s Weibo account. Accordingly, the GT5 Pro will have a periscope zoom camera with a 64 megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor. On the one hand, this is good news. Realme had avoided zoom cameras for years and instead went with digital zoom.

On the other hand, the telecamera should only achieve a triple optical zoom. Almost all manufacturers can do this with normal telephoto cameras, while periscope lenses usually offer 5x or even 10x optical zoom like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The main camera uses a 1/1.4 inch sensor from the Sony IMX9 series with OIS. Interestingly, the OnePlus 12 could bring exactly the same camera setup, but with the usual Hasselblad tuning included. This is not a surprise since Oppo, OnePlus and Realme all belong to the same BBK group and share various hardware and software.

With the Realme GT5 Pro, a full-fledged flagship seems to be in the starting blocks. According to the latest rumors it will have a 6.67-inch OLED display. The regular GT5 should get a 6.74-inch 144Hz OLED display instead. There’s a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. Two battery and charging versions are planned. They include 4,600 mAh capacity with 240 watt charging and 5,200 mAh with 150 watt charging.
