Oppo introduces ColorOS 13 based on Android 13

Oppo today brought ColorOS 13 to the global stage. The user interface is based on Android 13 and offers numerous visual changes, several new AoD functions and improved cross-device collaboration. The company promised that its operating system will reach the Find X5 and Find X5 Pro flagships by the end of the month. A total of 60 Oppo phones should receive the update by the end of the first half of 2023.

With ColorOS 13, Oppo introduces its Aquamorphic theme, which brings more rounded corners to the UI and widgets. Icons look better and the manufacturer has also integrated Google’s Material You into ColorOS. The animations have also been watered down (in a good way) and now use Android’s colors.

Changes to the always-on display include Bitmojis and information about the music currently playing. The latter widget currently only works with Spotify and the built-in Music app. Oppo also offers data on the AOD, including when and how often the phone was unlocked.

Playback controls also found their way into the control center as the panel has evolved beyond its primary purpose as a notification center. It supports horizontal layout and can be split by notifications (right) and control center (left).

Functional changes in ColorOS 13 are accompanied by improvements in privacy and security. The UI now automatically pixelates avatars and names in chat screenshots. Cross-device, multi-screen collaboration works with the Oppo Air tablet and any Windows laptop.
