Leaks and teasers for the OnePlus 12 now appear almost daily. There was a bit of a change today – an official confirmation from OnePlus for the upcoming flagship phone’s main camera sensor. OnePlus has teamed up with Sony to develop a new Lytia dual-layer stacked sensor.

The new stacked CMOS sensor with 2-layer transistor pixel technology has separate layers for the transistor and photodiode layers. From a purely physical perspective, this creates larger diodes that can capture more light. OnePlus already used a Sony Lytia 808 sensor in the main camera of the OnePlus Open. However, it seems that the OnePlus 12 will use a different Lytia sensor.

The BBK sister companies Oppo and vivo also announced partnerships with Sony at the beginning of the year to obtain Lytia sensors. This means that the upcoming top models Find X7 and vivo X100 will likely have the same dual-layer stacked sensors for the main cameras.

There are already various rumors about the OnePlus 12’s camera setup. According to this, we can expect a Sony IMX966 main sensor with 50 megapixels as well as a 64 megapixel telephoto camera with an OmniVision OV64B sensor and three times optical zoom as well as a 48 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Additionally, the OnePlus phone will feature an LTPO OLED display developed by BOE. The launch is reportedly sometime next month in China. The global release should take at most a few weeks longer and start in early 2024.
