The Nothing Phone (2) will finally be officially unveiled at an event on July 11th. The smartphone is already launching with Nothing OS 2.0, the company’s new interface based on Android 13. It’s going to be a pretty big deal for the young company. Around 100 developers have been working on the next major software version after Nothing OS 1.5, which is currently still powering the Nothing Phone (1).
This begs the question of whether and when the Nothing Phone (1) will get the new firmware. Now we got some good news on the topic. Nothing OS 2.0 will also come to the Phone (1) “by the end of August” according to Carl Pei, boss and company founder of Nothing. That’s about a month and a half after the launch of the Nothing Phone (2). It’s still unclear what will be new in Nothing OS 2.0. According to current rumors, the software team started development from scratch.

Pei also emphasized that software support is “very important” for his company, which is why we can have reasonable hope for an Android 14 update for the time being. When it comes to adapting Android 13, Nothing is definitely not one of the fastest manufacturers.
Nothing has already officially confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 6.7-inch display and a 4,700 mAh battery. The device will receive Android updates for three years from launch and security patches for four years.
