Nothing Phone (1) Android 13 Beta

A new software update for the Nothing Phone (1) is available. It’s the first since the launch of the stable build of Nothing OS 1.5 that brought Android 13 to the Phone (1). Nothing is currently rolling out the new firmware as an over-the-air download with a size of 91 MB. The software is called Nothing OS 1.5.3. It brings improvements in app loading speed and longer battery life thanks to a new memory management algorithm. The algorithm cuts app launch times by over 35% while lowering CPU usage.

Also, with Nothing OS 1.5.3, you can finally add games to the game mode manually. There are smoother animations, as well as an “improved fingerprint transition between the lock screen and AOD”. Nothing has also added new wallpapers and promises better overall system stability. Additionally, there’s support for the company’s upcoming True Wireless earbuds called Nothing Ear (2), which Nothing will unveil next week.

Bug fixes are also plenty on board. Aside from the general ones, there are also fixes for the abnormal appearance of the night light mode and not showing glyph lights on incoming WhatsApp calls. YouTube videos should no longer freeze during playback and weather data should also be displayed in the Quick Look widget. Nothing also fixed the flashing loading prompt on the AOD.
