As of December 1st, Nothing is accepting registrations for the upcoming Nothing OS 1.5 open beta test. And thus for the start of the young brand in the direction of Android 13. Previously, the company had spoken very openly about the fact that a stable update for the Nothing Phone (1) would not come this year.
Today the time had come and Nothing put the first beta version online for registered users. Nothing OS 1.5 comes with a new weather app with custom Nothing UI. Apps load up to 50% faster and there are more color schemes to match third-party apps to your wallpaper. A new QR code scanner has landed in Quick Settings. The clipboard at the bottom of the screen offers quick edits before pasting. There is also a new look for the media controls.

There is also an option to close active background apps directly from the notification area. Background storage has been increased, making frequently used apps load faster. A new self-healing feature “makes the phone (1) run like new” by cleaning cache and expired system images. Quick settings have been revamped with new network and Bluetooth device popups. And the volume controls now have easily adjustable sliders without having to unlock the screen. There is an improved game mode with a new light notifications UI and the Google Game Dashboard that supports screenshots, screen recording, FPS display and “Do Not Disturb”.
Of course, there are also all the new Google features from Android 13. These include the new photo picker, notification permissions, new media permissions and support for using different apps in different languages. The final, stable build of Nothing OS 1.5 is slated for release in early 2023.
