Nothing Phone (1) Android 13 Beta

About a month ago, the Nothing Phone (1) received the first beta version of Nothing OS 1.5 based on Android 13. Now Nothing has released the second Android 13 update for all Nothing Phone (1) models that are registered for beta testing. According to Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, the new firmware is coming four days ahead of schedule.

The new build includes new minimalist wallpapers, customizable lock screen shortcuts, a new “handcrafted glyph ringtone and notification soundpack of a slightly different style”. The quick settings panel for the data connections now allows quick switching between different SIM cards. There are smoother animations when turning the display on or off, a new algorithm for automatic brightness control, and an improved user interface. The update also brings new animations in the camera app and longer battery life.

The new firmware update also increases system stability and fixes various errors in the Nothing Phone (1). Which exactly Nothing unfortunately doesn’t mention. The complete Nothing X app is now also integrated into the operating system. And the pop-up view with “some interaction improvements” is finally back.

The new Nothing OS 1.5 version with Android 13 comes as a 127MB OTA download. However, it is still unclear when the final, stable build for the Nothing Phone (1) will be ready. So far, there has been around one beta update per month. Accordingly, for the time being, one can only expect another beta firmware in mid-February.
