Apple’s oft-leaked but yet-to-be-unveiled next-generation iPad Pro and iPad Air models are set to launch in early May, according to the latest tip. The new iPad Pro tablets will finally feature OLED displays, as has been leaked countless times. Also, for the first time in history, the Apple iPad Air will become a series and not a single device. Just like the iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9, it will also be released in two sizes.

It’s been about a year and a half since the previous Apple iPad Pro generation was introduced. This is the longest period in Apple tablet history without a new version. The wait will definitely be worth it, because the OLED panels will make the new iPads even thinner.

Production was apparently already ramped up in advance of the market launch. Apple certainly expects the new iPad Air 12.9 to boost its tablet business. Sales in this division have declined in each of the last two financial years. Even this past holiday season, when iPads have been quite popular gifts in the past, there was another 25% drop compared to the previous year.

The new Apple iPad Pro models will be equipped with the M3 chipset. There will also be Magic Keyboards and Apple Pencils in a new design. According to a current rumor, the latter could even support the Vision Pro headset. The iPad Air 12.9 will also get a new chipset – probably the M2. This means that a larger iPad is available, but it should be significantly cheaper than the Pro.

Apparently Apple originally planned to release the new iPads by the end of March. However, there were delays in finalizing the software. OLED displays with their complex manufacturing processes may also have contributed to this.
