New Apple iPad models to arrive on March 26th

Apple is expected to unveil both new iPad Air tablets and new iPad Pro models with OLED displays this spring.

Apple is widely expected to unveil new iPad Air tablets and OLED iPad Pro models in the next few weeks. According to new rumors from Asia, the company will unveil its new iPads on Tuesday, March 26th. Chinese tipster Instant Digital claimed on Weibo this morning that Apple will make some kind of announcement about the new iPads that day, but didn’t give an official launch date.

Chinese website IT Home also claims that Apple will launch new iPads on March 26th. However, the website appears to be interpreting this date based on Amazon listings for third-party cases for the new iPads rather than concrete information from a trustworthy source.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release new iPad Pro and iPad Air models toward the end of March or April. In the latest issue of his “Power On” newsletter, Gurman explained that he wanted to clear up the confusion about when he thinks Apple will release new iPads (particularly new iPad Pro models). Gurman reiterated that a new variant of iPadOS 17.4 won’t be ready until the end of March or sometime in April. Apple developed these specifically for the updated models.

“Once the OS is finished, Apple needs to send it off to the factories to be installed on the new hardware. That process could last a couple weeks, probably taking us deeper into next month,” said Gurman.

iPad Pro with M3 chip, iPad Air with M2

The two new Apple iPad Pro models are expected to get a new M3 chipset, OLED displays and a thinner body. There is also a front camera in landscape format, a redesigned camera module and possibly wireless charging with MagSafe on board. The new iPad Air tablets are likely to get Apple’s M2 chip instead and, for the first time, a 12.9-inch model.

Finally, a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro with a larger trackpad and a new Apple Pencil are also waiting for their launch in spring. Gurman had previously ruled out an Apple event for the new iPads. Instead, he believes they will be announced in a press release on the Apple Newsroom website. The same thing happened with the new 13-inch MacBook Air and 15-inch MacBook Air earlier this month.
