Motorola finally has a flagship phone in the US – the Motorola Edge+ (2023) with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and a 165Hz display is here. Priced at $800 (€727), it’s cheaper than all of the competition in the form of the Google Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max. Also to the stage came the Motorola Moto 5G (2023) and the Moto G Stylus (2023).
The Motorola Edge+ (2023) is apparently the global version of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, although Motorola places some value on the Edge+’s 5,100mAh battery. The Edge 40 Pro has a significantly lower capacity of 4,600 mAh. However, the dimensions of the two smartphones are identical. Accordingly, the same 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, an adjustable refresh rate of 165 Hz and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision is also on board. Also on the front is the 60 megapixel selfie camera, which shoots videos in 4K resolution.

On the back, Motorola uses the same 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera with a 1/1.55-inch sensor and OIS. There is also a 2x portrait camera with 12 megapixels, aperture f/1.6 and a 1/2.93 inch sensor. The last camera resolves 50 megapixels through an f/2.2 aperture on a 1/2.76 inch sensor. It covers the ultra wide range, but thanks to autofocus it can also take macro photos.
The Motorola Edge+ (2023) supports 68W wired charging with the included charger and 15W wireless charging. Wireless Power Share adds 5 watts to the battery. In contrast, the Moto Edge 40 Pro supports 125-watt wired charging, which could explain the lower battery capacity. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 8 GB of RAM. There is also 256 or 512 GB of storage.
The Motorola smartphone gets three years of OS updates and four years of security patches. And there was no skimping on the craftsmanship either, with Gorilla Glass Victus, an aluminum frame and an IP68 certification for protection against water and dust. The Motorola Edge+ (2023) will go on sale on May 25th via Amazon, Best Buy and Motorola.com. It’s also available through Boost Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, and Consumer Cellular. Sales on the Motorola website in Canada will already start on May 19th.
