Motorola Edge 50 Pro

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro was first announced in India earlier this month and then went global last week. It’s an upper mid-range device with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and an unusual back design. Thanks to the latest teardown from the YouTube channel PBKreviews, there is already a video of how the Motorola smartphone is completely disassembled and reassembled.

As usual, a heat gun or hairdryer is required to begin with to loosen the glue and remove the backplate. In this case it is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in Moonlight Pearl, a new color designed by the Italian studio Mazzucchelli. After removing the back plate, various screws follow and then the mainboard and the secondary board.

There are large graphite sheets in many places that help dissipate heat. The cameras are located on the motherboard and we can take a close look at them. On the other hand, there is the selfie camera and again a lot of graphite foil. Some copper tape and thermal paste covering the chipset can also be seen.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro teardown also allows us to take a look at various components such as the ambient light sensor and the SIM board. The hardware connection board with the USB-C port and microphone, the bottom speaker, the vibration motor and the large copper vapor chamber can also be seen.

Bottom line, the Edge 50 Pro managed a repairability rating of 5.5 out of 10, which isn’t particularly good. The battery, which has no tabs for easy removal, scored few points. And to replace the buttons on the side you have to dismantle the display. The smartphone received a point for its design and repair time. There were 0.5 points each for simply replacing the display and the battery. The simple replacement of other parts such as the USB-C port earned 1.5 points, and the good supply of spare parts earned 2 points.
