Microsoft Surface Duo: No more software updates

The Microsoft Surface Duo, which was released in September 2020, will no longer receive any software updates. This includes Android version upgrades and security patches. The Surface Duo launched in 2020 with Android 10. Back then, Microsoft promised Android security updates and operating system upgrades for three years.

In January 2022, the foldable received the Android 11 update and later in October, it was updated to Android 12L. This was the last major Android version upgrade for the foldable smartphone. This leaves the Microsoft Surface Duo with two Android version upgrades. Not a particularly impressive feat for a phone that launched for $1,399.

The Microsoft Surface Duo 2, released in October 2021 with Android 11, also receives security updates and operating system upgrades for three years. It received the Android 12L update last October and will no longer receive Android version upgrades and security patches after October 21, 2024. Whether Microsoft will release a new Android operating system upgrade before software support ends remains to be seen.
