iPhone 15 gets dynamic island, iPhone 16 Pro under-display-face ID

According to a new report from The Elec, Apple likes the pill-shaped Dynamic Island cutout in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max very much. So much, that Apple plans to equip all iPhone 15 models with it, including the non-Pro iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models. According to the report, Apple has already ordered the relevant components from its suppliers.

Leading the way is Samsung Display, which in turn has ordered devices worth KRW 24.1 billion ($19,4 million) from the South Korean company Philoptics. The order reportedly relates to etching equipment used in the manufacturing process of Dynamic Island displays. However, Samsung Display is expected to hire other companies in the future to meet the increased demand for Apple’s Dynamic Island displays.

The Elec also commented on the iPhone 16 in terms of display technology. Accordingly, Apple finally wants to bring an Under-Display (UD) Face ID solution for the iPhone 16 Pro series. However, the report does not provide any further details on what this full-screen solution might look like. According to older rumors, Samsung Display could work with OTI Lumionics on the iPhone 15 UD camera display. The company has developed a new generation of UD cameras with proprietary organic cathode pattern material for optimal clarity over the camera and sensors.

According to the rumors, this UD Face ID solution could already make its debut on the iPhone 15 Pro series. From today’s perspective, however, that seems unlikely, since Apple only introduced Dynamic Island displays last year. In addition, according to the latest rumors, test production of the iPhone 15 is already underway in China. As such, there will likely be more details on the subject soon.
