Apple today released iOS 17.0.3, which as the name suggests is a very small incremental update to iOS 17. At least if you own something other than an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 15 Pro Max. With one of these iPhones in hand, however, it is exactly what users have been waiting for for several days. And should therefore be installed as quickly as possible.

The new firmware is intended to fix the overheating problems that many iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max buyers have reported since the smartphones were introduced. Last week, Apple finally acknowledged the problems after countless online reports. A future software update should fix the cause of the overheating, as Apple promised. That’s exactly this update.
Meanwhile, Apple also collaborated with the developers of certain apps such as Instagram and Uber. Both apps were “overloading” the A17 Pro chipset, causing heat dissipation issues. More apps will probably also receive updates in the near future to reduce resource utilization.
The update released today with build number 21A360 also fixes a kernel vulnerability. This would allow an attacker to bypass authorization management under certain conditions. According to Apple, the bug has already been exploited in iOS 16.6 and earlier versions. Therefore, the update is definitely worth it, even if you don’t have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple also released iPadOS 17.0.3, which only contains the security update.
