Huawei CEO Richard Yu launched the new Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 and Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2 at a major event today. According to Yu, the new notebook is “lighter than light” – it weighs just 980g, making it around 30% lighter than the previous 2023 model. It’s also quite thin at just 13.5mm at its thickest point.

Despite the weight savings, the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 is more powerful than ever. The new Intel Ultra 9 (185H) processor is 60% faster overall than the 2023 Core i7 (1360P). The new Arc GPU is even twice as fast. This is still a 14.2 inch laptop. However, the IPS LCD display is now an OLED panel that runs at 120Hz (was 90Hz) and boosts brightness to 1,000 nits (twice as much as the LCD). There is also 1,440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

The display reproduces 10-bit colors with a resolution of 3,120 x 2,080 pixels. It supports touch input with up to 10 fingers, but of course there is also a large trackpad. Intel’s new Ultra processors are equipped with AI accelerators integrated into the execution of the Pangu AI model. This makes things like spontaneously generating subtitles for films, but also video calls, taking dictated notes and much more possible.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 is powered by a 70 Wh LiPo battery that charges at a fast 140 watts. 10 minutes of recharging via USB-C is enough for a battery life of 3 hours. For connectivity, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.3 are available. The webcam shoots 1080p videos and works with 4 microphones and 6 speakers.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2024 is available in Inkstone Black, White and Clear Blue Snow. Featuring an Ultra 9 processor with up to 40 watts of power, it’s lighter than both an Apple MacBook Pro 14 and the new MacBook Air.

The base model starts features an Ultra 7 processor (155H), 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD and costs CNY 11,000 (€1,420/$1,520/₹130,000) after a small discount. The upgrade to 32GB RAM costs an extra CNY 1,500, while the top model with Core Ultra 9, 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD is priced at CNY 15,000. The Huawei notebook is already in pre-sale, but actual sales will begin soon (April 18 for the base model).

Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2

The company also introduced the Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2. If you don’t know the previous model, it’s a lipstick-shaped charging case that houses a pair of TWS headphones. The case has a decorative engraving and you can even attach a strap and carry it like a handbag.

The Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2 are certified for Hi-Res Audio Wireless and support L2HC and LDAC codecs (up to 990 Kbps, 96 kHz for 24-bit audio). They can play sounds as low as 16 Hz. The IP54 protection rating for protection against rain and splash water is also on board.

The battery life of the Huawei earbuds is typically 5 hours and with ANC enabled it is 3.5 hours. A quick charge brings back 2 hours of playtime in 5 minutes. The Huawei FreeBuds Lipstick 2 are already available for pre-sale for CNY 1,700 (€220/$235/₹19,500). Color options include String White and Phantom Black.
