Honor initially introduced the Honor V Purse as a prototype, suggesting that it was just a study. This has changed now. The unique outward-folding smartphone is available in limited pre-sales in China today. When folded, it measures 156.5 x 74.7 x 8.6 mm and weighs just 214 g. A Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra measures 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm and weighs 234 g, an iPhone 15 Pro Max measures 159.9 x 76.7 x 8.3 mm and weighs 221 g.
The Honor V Purse is an outward-folding device, which means there is only one display that wraps around the outside of the device. The 7.71-inch OLED panel delivers a resolution of 2,348 x 2,016 pixels with an aspect ratio of 10.5:9. When folded, a 6.45-inch display (2,348 x 1,088 pixels, 19.4:9) remains. The 10-bit display covers the DCI-P3 color space and creates a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. It also delivers 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a 90Hz refresh rate. The Honor V Purse is powered by a Snapdragon 778G chipset with 16GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The Honor smartphone runs MagicOS 7.2 based on Android 13.
The cameras are arranged like on a conventional smartphone. There is a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the back. When closed, both cameras lie normally on the back. There is also an 8 megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls, but of course you can also use the main cameras at any time.
The battery of the Honor V Purse is not huge. However, the 4,500 mAh capacity is still more than you would expect for such a light and thin phone. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is 13.4mm thick when closed and weighs 253g with a 4,400mAh battery. It charges with 35 watts via the USB-C 2.0 port.
As you can see, the special thing about the Honor V Purse is the chain that you can attach to it. This means you can carry your cell phone like a handbag. Since the display surrounds the device, you can customize the design with various always-on display styles.
