Honor will launch the Foldable Magic Vs and Honor 80 series on November 23 in China. The latter is expected to consist of four models: the base model, the SE, the Pro and the Pro+. According to previous rumors, the Honor 80 Pro+ will have a 160 megapixel camera on the back. Honor didn’t confirm that today, but it does say that the Honor 80 Pro will have a 160 megapixel camera.

Honor 80 Pro

The announcement came through a Weibo post with an image showing the Honor 80 Pro with a dual selfie camera. Honor has not yet commented on the front cameras of the Pro model. Rumor has it that the Honor 80 Pro+ also has a dual front camera setup, with both cameras having a resolution of 50 megapixels.

Series teasers

Coming back to the Pro, according to the teaser, the camera “supports up to 160MP, and the experience is 160MP. Switch to High Pixel mode for the experience.” Either that means Honor uses a lower-resolution sensor to upscale to 160-megapixels via software. Or, what we think is more likely, that the software will produce significantly smaller images with similar image quality but significantly less storage space from 160 megapixel data.

Honor has yet to confirm the existence of the Honor 80 Pro+. However, since the Weibo post speaks of a series with 160 megapixel cameras, it is basically already confirmed that there will be more than one Honor 80 smartphone with a 160 megapixel camera.

Already confirmed is a Snapdragon 782G chipset in the base model and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor in the Pro. All smartphones run on MagicOS. More teasers are likely to come before the official unveiling on November 23rd.
