The first Google Pixel Feature Drop for 2023 brings new features to Pixel phones, as well as fall detection to the Google Pixel Watch.
Google Pixel Feature Drop

Google has announced the first Pixel Feature Drop for 2023, bringing a range of new features to older Pixel phones, as well as fall detection to the Pixel Watch. The Google smartwatch now automatically recognizes whether you crashed big time and connects to the emergency services or sends an automated message to request help. But first you will be asked to confirm that everything is fine.

The flagship smartphones from 2021, the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, also benefit from the Google Pixel Feature Drop. Thanks to improved algorithms in the Google Tensor chipset, the update brings a faster Night Sight, as Google calls its night photography functions. Both devices, as well as all other Pixel phones, can also erase background objects using the Magic Eraser feature in Google Photos. However, a Google One subscription is required for the Magic Eraser. Pixel owners in the US starting with the Google Pixel 4a can skip automated menus for services like banking.

A feature called “At a Glance” also ensures greater connectivity between multiple Google devices in your home. For example, you can set a timer on one device and track it on another device or deactivate it again. You also get a push notification on your smartphone. Also new is the Health Connect Hub, which collects all sports-related data from compatible apps and devices. But you can decide for yourself which device collects how much data. In addition, Google makes transparent what data is actually collected and stored.

Google Pixel Feature Drop brings UWB digital car keys

The Google Pixel feature drop also brings support for UWB digital car keys. This allows one Pixel smartphone to become the master key for multiple cars. The car will lock or unlock automatically when approaching. You can even start the engine with your cell phone in your pocket. The function will be activated “in the coming weeks”. In addition, Google’s keyboard app Gboard has new emoji combinations. And if you own a Google Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, you can use two eSIMs including dual standby after the update.
