Google’s new and improved Night Sight capabilities for night-time camera photography were first announced with the Pixel 7 series. As promised, the Californians are now rolling out the firmware with the latest camera functions for the Google Pixel 6 series. However, the new zoom bar, as known from the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, has not made it to the Pixel 6, at least not yet.

In any case, the night vision improvements are clearly noticeable. Night Sight now runs faster on the Google Pixel 6 as Google has reduced exposure time by 50%. At the same time, Night Sight photos are less blurred and much sharper. In addition to the dedicated night mode, Google has also overhauled the HDR+ features to reduce noise.
When switching to Night Sight, Google Pixel 6 users can still choose. There’s a new toggle to choose between a fast Night Sight mode or a slower, longer exposure night mode. The bandwidth varies between two and six seconds depending on the situation. However, the six-second exposure will only pop up in extremely dark scenarios.
According to initial reports, Google Camera version 8.8 is already in a broad rollout. You can either try to update the app via the Play Store or wait for the automatic update on your Google Pixel phone.
