Today, Google announced that the AI-powered tools in Google Photos will be available to everyone using the app, without the need for a subscription. We’re talking about the Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur and Portrait Light. The launch date is May 15, the day after Google’s annual developer conference called I/O.

However, as usual, you should expect the rollout to take a few weeks after this date. Because for some reason Google has thought that this is the right way to go for years. The three features above will also be available on “more devices, including Pixel tablets” Google announced.

Last year, Google introduced the Magic Editor on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. It uses generative AI to enable complex edits with simple corrections from the user. This includes, for example, repositioning the subject or changing the colors of the sky or a sunset. Now these features are being expanded to all Pixel smartphones with unlimited usage.

Additionally, all Google Photos users on both Android and iOS devices can save ten Magic Editor edits per month now. Exceeding this limit requires either a Pixel device or a premium Google One plan that includes 2TB of storage or more.
