Galaxy S23 Ultra gets best main camera, S24 Ultra best zoom camera

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be launched in exactly one month, so the rumor mill is currently active when it comes to Samsung smartphones. But the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is now also appearing in the media on a weekly basis. The last leaks already brought Wi-Fi 7 and a new telephoto sensor into play. Today’s assumes a significantly larger camera update for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The source of the leak is tipster Ice Universe, who has a very good track record, especially when it comes to Samsung leaks. Accordingly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra gets a new and improved telephoto camera sensor. The new sensor also bring a new powerful zoom mechanism. Since Ice Universe only refers to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the rest of the series will probably get nothing.

The main camera, on the other hand, should remain the same, at least as far as the hardware is concerned. According to the previous leaks, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will bring a 200 megapixel ISOCELL HPX sensor under the main camera. We would accordingly see this again in the successor. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is already recognized as one of the best camera phones out there. The S23 Ultra takes the main camera to the next level in exactly one month and the S24 Ultra takes the zoom camera a year later.

A new report from SamMobile also mentions a suitable sensor on the same topic – a new telephoto module from LG Innotek. This telephoto sensor is said to offer the same performance as traditional DSLR camera lenses. It uses a special technology that is supposed to create a real optical zoom without great loss of detail. Exactly this sensor could end up in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Or Samsung decides to develop a similar sensor itself. That being said, the new generation of Samsung’s AMOLED displays and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset are expected. Hopefully there will finally be an update in terms of charging speed, the only real criticism of the Galaxy S series.

The S23 Ultra, on the other hand, gets the new Samsung E6 AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz in addition to the 200 megapixel main camera. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, as there’s no Exynos 2300 variant this year. The 5,000 mAh battery will charge with up to 45 watts. And the integrated S Pen is also part of the game again.

Galaxy S23 and S23+

Interestingly, while the Galaxy S23 and S23+ will get smaller screens and inferior cameras, they’ll share the same design. Unlike previous years, Samsung will bring the devices closer to the Ultra with the same design language that debuted with the S22 Ultra.
