In case you don’t know, the popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) franchise has faced many government issues in India. The original version of the game was removed from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store at the time due to security concerns and violence-related reasons. Following these events, the Krafton company released a special version of the game in the country. But Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was also removed from mobile stores last year for security reasons.

The game is now officially back following ongoing negotiations between Krafton and the Indian government. The game is available again on the Google Play Store and users can pre-download the approximately 800 MB package. The actual game servers are expected to open on May 29, coinciding with the game’s re-listing on the Apple App Store.

According to the Google Play Store listing, BGMI also features new content. This includes a new Nusa map, a new quad vehicle, and some free outfit rewards for completing certain events. Also, Krafton is likely to have significantly softened BGMI to comply with government requirements. In earlier Indian versions, blood was colored green or yellow instead of red, and kills were renamed “Finishes”. Also, it’s safe to assume that there will be some kind of daily game time limit. That was also a state requirement. Even if all the official conditions are met, Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar has already clarified that this is still a trial restart of the game and a “three-month trial approval”:

“We will keep a close watch on other issues of user harm, addiction, etc, in next three months before a final decision is taken”.

Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, expressed his excitement at the restart of BGMI in the country, saying:

“We are thrilled to announce that BGMI is now available for pre-load. We are constantly working to provide our users with a seamless gameplay experience and are excited to welcome everyone back. We extend our gratitude to the authorities and our users for their continued support as we aim to enhance the gaming experience for our Indian community.”
